"SOUL FACES: Rituals in Art, Maskmaking & Guided Imagery"
A weekend workshop intensive of exploration & discovery, directed by artist/performer Shae Uisna. This workshop combines guided visualization and storytelling with art & maskmaking. Participants will make a finished mask and assembled costume; they will also create and perform a short, 5 – 7 minute piece that will involve movement, spoken word, singing, and/or music and drumming.
Tools Along The Way
This class utilizes journal writing and guided visualization. We will be creating masks, costumes and mandalas. We will explore music, singing, and spoken word to create performances. The final performance will have drumming, dance and movement.
We Will Need:
A space to make art: (tables, chairs, sink with water)
A white board with markers.
A space in which to move.
Percussive instruments.
Instructor will provide materials for creating masks, mandalas, and costumes.
Participants should bring their own, (ongoing) art journals or notebooks and any art-making supplies they enjoy using.
Participants should also bring any “found objects” and/or materials they feel drawn to
(to incorporate into their mask or costume.)

About the Instructor
Shae Uisna is an artist, performer, teacher, Life-Cycle Celebrant and lifelong student of comparative mythology and puppet & mask traditions.
Ms. Uisna holds an MA in Theatre (Design & Directing) from Portland State University, was a Fulbright Scholar to Indonesia in wayang golek menak (puppet theatre) and a Fellowship Recipient in Puppet Theatre from the O'Neill Puppetry Conference. In her work as a theatre artist, Ms. Uisna draws from a wealth of imagery and traditions, weaving archetype, movement and music into unique classes and performances that aspire to be both moving and transformative. www.shaeshaeshae.com
Shae also holds certifications in Ceremonial Studies from the Celebrant Foundation & Institute (CF&I.) Ms. Uisna has specializations in Funerals, “Ceremonies Across The Life Cycle,” Healings, and Weddings. She is currently on the faculty of CF&I, teaching classes in Healings, Ceremonies Across the Life-Cycle, and Funerals; she also facilitates a Death Café in North Portland, Oregon, and founded the “Motherless Mother’s Day Celebration.” Shae is passionate about training new Celebrants, as well as in developing Ceremonies for Communities. www.SacredRites.Earth
